Dr Sophie Mayhew Psychologist Plymouth brings over 20 years of experience in adult mental health. She works in private clinical psychology and offers compassionate, effective, evidence-based support. She helps clients without long waiting times, in a warm and confidential environment.
Dr Sophie Mayhew practices as a Consultant Clinical Psychologist, specialising in adult mental health. She has a particular focus on psychosis and shame-related difficulties. She began as a psychologist more than twenty years ago and has worked as a clinical psychologist since 2003.
Our team uses Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), which helps people build courage, kindness toward themselves, and emotional regulation skills. She also provides Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT).

She belongs to the British Psychological Society, the Clinical Psychology Division, the British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies, and she is an Associate Member of The Compassionate Mind Foundation.
Her research includes work on Compassion Focused Therapy for psychosis. She has published on topics such as compassionate mind training for voice hearers, psychological injury, and early intervention after trauma.
She also works as Lead for Specialist Adult Mental Health Psychology at Livewell Southwest CiC. In addition, she runs her own consulting clinical psychology company, Equanimity Clinical Psychology Services.
Outside work, Dr Mayhew enjoys walking along the coastline and exploring the natural landscape. She loves creative painting and has a particular interest in the artist Kurt Jackson.
