Emma Lakeland DBT Therapist Sussex offers a deep well of experience, care, and clinical excellence. She is a dedicated therapist with over nine years of experience supporting individuals through complex emotional and psychological challenges. Her journey began at the Hospice in the Weald as a bereavement counsellor. From the start, worked closely with individuals navigating profound grief, helping them move through pain and towards peace.
Emma’s professional journey is rich and diverse. She continued her career at The Kenward Trust, an addiction and rehabilitation centre. Here, she developed a strong understanding of how trauma and addiction intertwine. Later, her work in adult complex homelessness deepened her insight into survival patterns and chronic psychological distress.
Thanks to these formative experiences, Emma brings clarity, resilience, and skill to every therapeutic relationship.
Emma’s counselling style centres around the humanistic approach. She builds strong, supportive relationships with her clients. Her empathy, warmth, and authenticity ensure that clients feel seen and safe. Transitioning into deeper healing becomes possible through this unique, non-judgemental environment.
She uses an integrative model—drawing from dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT), mindfulness, emotional regulation, interpersonal effectiveness, trauma work, and grief support. Each approach supports healing from a different angle. When combined, these therapies provide powerful momentum for recovery.
Emma uses DBT tools to support clients experiencing emotional dysregulation and personality disorders. She guides individuals to move beyond harmful coping mechanisms and towards healthier patterns of behaviour. Moreover, she helps clients build distress tolerance, improve relationships, and manage overwhelming emotions.
This work offers clients the freedom to reconnect with their lives—calmer, clearer, and more present.
