Gavin Beard Integrative and EMDR Therapist Sussex offers a compassionate, experienced, and holistic approach to recovery and personal growth. Gavin began his professional journey in 1998, and since then, he has remained deeply committed to helping others heal from addiction, trauma, and emotional struggles.
He helped pioneer Brighton and Hove’s first non-NHS residential detox service. This service provided vital support to individuals battling addiction. With a clear vision, Gavin worked to ensure access to a wide range of support services, creating comprehensive inpatient and outpatient programmes designed for long-term healing.
Over the past 26 years, Gavin has worked in both charitable and private healthcare settings. In each role, he led teams and managed treatment programmes. Because of this broad experience, he understands the complexity of human struggles, including depression, anxiety, and trauma.
Furthermore, Gavin brings insight into challenges within personal and professional relationships. His goal is to help people overcome emotional barriers and connect more deeply with themselves and others.
In 2015, Gavin began training in eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing (EMDR) and qualified in 2017. Since then, he has successfully treated trauma-related conditions using EMDR and is finalising his accreditation.
Inspired by Gabor Maté’s work, Gavin believes trauma is more about what happens inside us than external events. As a result, he focuses on how experiences shape self-image, relationships, and our sense of safety. This approach allows clients to process deeply held emotional pain and make meaningful change.
As an Integrative and EMDR Therapist in Sussex, Gavin sees each person as a whole. He believes healing happens when the body, mind, and spirit are considered together. Therefore, his therapy model addresses not just symptoms, but the deeper roots of distress.
When people seek change, they often feel unsure or afraid. Gavin recognises that change requires courage, and therapy offers a safe, non-judgmental space for that journey to begin. With empathy and support, people can navigate vulnerability and move toward lasting transformation.
Gavin knows that transformation is rarely instant. It involves effort, patience, and consistent support. As people begin to embrace change, therapy becomes a space where hope can grow. By acknowledging their needs and challenges, clients begin to develop confidence and self-compassion.
Therapy with Gavin is rooted in empathy and connection. His clients feel heard, understood, and empowered as they move toward their goals. Ultimately, the aim is not just to cope—but to thrive.
