Clinical Psychologist Slough
- Slough, UK
I am a Counselling Psychologist based in East London, South Africa, with over 15 years of experience assisting individuals in overcoming a wide range of personal challenges. These include depression, anxiety, relationship issues, trauma, substance abuse, and grief.
My mission is to provide a safe, confidential space where clients can openly explore their emotions and thoughts. I adopt a compassionate, non-judgmental approach, working collaboratively with clients to set goals and support them in creating positive changes in their lives.
I began my career in psychology as a volunteer at Life Line, gaining valuable experience in community interventions. This was followed by my role as the inpatient programme coordinator at SANCA Central Eastern Cape, where I developed expertise in the treatment of substance abuse. I later earned my Masters in Counselling Psychology from the University of Fort Hare, graduating Cum Laude. I am also registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Counselling Psychologist.
Currently, I operate a private practice in East London, offering personalised therapy to meet the unique needs of each client. I am also registered with the Board of Healthcare Funders (BHF).
Psychotherapy is offered in a series of 50-60 minute sessions, typically once a week. During the initial sessions, we work together to understand your concerns in context, delving into both past and present experiences that may be contributing to your distress. You may also complete general screening measures to help clarify therapy goals.
People seek psychotherapy for a variety of reasons, including:
Coping with difficult life events.
Improving relationships.
Making personal changes.
Having a confidential space to talk.
Understanding how past experiences affect the present.
Developing coping strategies for stress and anxiety.
Managing emotions healthily.
Improving self-esteem and confidence.
Making informed decisions.
Living a more fulfilling life.
As an integrative therapist, I combine various therapeutic modalities to tailor my approach to each client’s needs. Some of the approaches I utilise include:
Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT): Effective for treating depression and anxiety.
Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT): Useful for emotion regulation and coping.
Gestalt Therapy: Focuses on self-awareness and understanding of present experience.
Psychodynamic Therapy: Explores unconscious patterns and past experiences.
Emotionally Focused Couple Therapy (EFT): Focuses on improving relationship dynamics.
Logotherapy: A search for meaning in life, especially for those experiencing existential issues.
The choice of therapy depends on the diagnosis and the client’s specific goals. For instance, CBT may be recommended if the primary aim is to develop coping mechanisms for anxiety or depression.
Therapy not only helps individuals address their immediate concerns but also helps uncover the underlying emotional patterns that contribute to distress. By understanding these patterns, clients can work to change them and adopt healthier ways of coping.
My approach fosters a supportive and empowering environment where clients feel safe to explore their emotions. Through our work together, you can gain insight into your patterns and behaviours, helping you to make conscious, informed decisions about your life.
