Himanshu Shekhar Consultant Psychiatrist Birmingham leads with over 10 years of experience in child and adolescent psychiatry. He joined Priory Hospital Woodbourne in August 2017, managing the CAMHS inpatient ward. Currently, Dr Shekhar supports young people and their families as outpatients at Priory Wellbeing Centre Birmingham. His patient-centred approach ensures the highest quality care, strictly following gold standard guidelines.
Dr Shekhar completed his MBBS degree in India in 2002. Then, he gained core psychiatric training at South London and Maudsley Trust. In 2007, he earned a Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Psychiatry from the University of Nottingham. He continued to enhance his skills by completing a Master of Science in Psychiatric Practice at the University of Hertfordshire in 2013. Furthermore, he became a member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (MRCPsych) the same year. His higher training includes a Postgraduate Diploma in Systemic Approaches from Tavistock and Portman NHS Trust, obtained in 2016.
Dr Shekhar speaks Hindi, Urdu, Assamese, and English fluently. Additionally, he understands Punjabi and Bengali well. These language skills allow him to communicate effectively with a diverse patient base in Birmingham and beyond.
Dr Shekhar holds many qualifications, including approval under Section 12(2) of the Mental Health Act 1983 (2008). He earned a BSc in Chemistry in 1996 and the Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in Child and Adolescent Mental Health in 2017. His certifications reflect his dedication to maintaining the highest standards in psychiatry.
Dr Shekhar provides a range of services such as mental health treatment, eating disorder management, and private CAMHS. He specializes in treating conditions like anxiety, ADHD, bipolar disorder, depression, attachment disorders, and more. Notably, he offers tailored support for adjustment disorder, anger management, anorexia nervosa, binge eating disorder, and body dysmorphic disorder.
Dr Shekhar regularly attends conferences and academic meetings. He incorporates feedback from young people and their families to continuously improve his practice. His approach remains compassionate, evidence-based, and focused on delivering the best outcomes.
