Ian Forrest Consultant Physician Respiratory Medicine Newcastle leads the way in advanced respiratory care at the Royal Victoria Infirmary. He specialises in Interstitial Lung Disease, Pleural Disease, and lung cancer, providing expert, personalised treatment for every patient. With over two decades of clinical experience, Dr Forrest combines deep medical knowledge with a patient-focused approach.
Dr Forrest graduated from Edinburgh in 1994 and completed his training across the Northern Region, including a prestigious MRC Clinical Research Fellowship. He joined the RVI as a consultant in 2006 and has since shaped its respiratory services. Notably, he developed and now leads the Interstitial Lung Disease Service, the Pleural Service, and contributes to the Lung Oncology service.
Dr Forrest delivers specialised care for complex lung conditions. His focus includes interstitial lung disease, managing pleural conditions, and lung cancer treatment. He employs the latest diagnostic and therapeutic techniques, ensuring patients receive cutting-edge care. Furthermore, Dr Forrest emphasises collaborative care, working closely with multidisciplinary teams for optimal outcomes.
Beyond clinical practice, Dr Forrest prioritises education. As Associate Clinical Sub-Dean for the Tyne base unit, he guides undergraduate and postgraduate medical students. Additionally, he chairs the British Thoracic Society Education and Training Committee, shaping national training standards. His work includes designing and delivering courses in Thoracic Ultrasound and specialty training programs.
Dr Forrest maintains a strong presence in general medicine on-call and actively contributes to general respiratory medicine services.
