Jo Elverson Consultant Palliative Medicine Newcastle is a dedicated clinician working within the Children’s Holistic Integrated Palliative Care Service (CHIPS). Based at the Great North Children’s Hospital, CHIPS serves the wider region, supporting paediatric teams throughout the North East and North Cumbria. As a passionate advocate for integrated care, Dr Elverson provides expert guidance and compassionate support to children and families facing complex health challenges.
Dr Jo Elverson began her medical journey in Newcastle. After completing her initial training, she advanced her expertise in Oxford, finalizing her specialist training in Palliative Medicine in 2010. Her years of experience in both adult and paediatric care have shaped her holistic and responsive approach. Because of this, families and healthcare teams alike value her insight.
In 2020, Dr Elverson joined the CHIPS team, bringing with her a wealth of experience in hospice and community-based care. Since then, she has played a vital role in expanding the service’s regional reach. While CHIPS supports hospitals, it also collaborates with local care providers to ensure consistent and compassionate support. Consequently, families benefit from coordinated care throughout their journey.
A key area of Dr Elverson’s work focuses on Transition and Palliative care for adults with learning disabilities. This field presents unique challenges, but Dr Elverson applies her deep understanding and adaptability to deliver meaningful support. Moreover, her commitment to education and development within this specialty ensures continued improvements in patient outcomes.
