About

Joanne Ramsdale Counselling & Psychotherapy offers a safe and supportive environment for women to explore their relationship with alcohol. Through a small group work programme, women can reflect on their drinking habits, identify triggers, and understand why alcohol has become an issue in their lives. Unlike traditional AA, which is often male-focused, this programme centres on women’s unique experiences. It examines how gender roles and identity impact alcohol use. By exploring deep connections to alcohol that often trace back to childhood, participants can better understand why they use alcohol to self-medicate, manage stress, and cope with emotional pain.

Services

Joanne Ramsdale provides a structured programme designed to help women understand and address their relationship with alcohol. The core services offered include:

  • Group Therapy for Women: This programme offers a safe, small-group setting for women to discuss their experiences with alcohol. Groups are limited to 6 to 8 participants, ensuring personal attention and support. Sessions are structured to provide both flexibility and guidance.

  • Exploring Alcohol’s Role in Your Life: Through the programme, participants can reflect on their beliefs about alcohol and understand how these beliefs shape their drinking habits. The therapy encourages women to examine how their roles and identity influence their relationship with alcohol.

  • Yoga and Movement Therapy: In collaboration with a trauma-informed yoga specialist, the programme includes yoga and movement therapy. This holistic approach helps women connect with their feelings on a deeper level. It promotes emotional healing and encourages self-awareness.

  • Therapeutic Approach to Alcohol Use: The programme looks at alcohol use from a women’s perspective. It moves away from the traditional medicalised model of alcohol abuse. Instead, it helps women understand how alcohol has become a coping mechanism and teaches them healthier ways to manage it.

Additional Information

The course runs on Sunday evenings at Absolute Yoga Studio in Crosby, Liverpool, making it accessible for women with busy schedules. It is ideal for those who have recognised alcohol as an issue but don’t fit into the labels of ‘alcoholic’ or ‘functioning alcoholic’. The small group setting fosters connection and provides empowerment as participants support one another.

Joanne’s compassionate, non-judgmental approach creates a safe space for women to address sensitive topics. Many participants find the group work to be transformative. It provides valuable insight and encouragement, which can lead to meaningful change in their relationship with alcohol. Combining psychotherapy and yoga creates a well-rounded experience that promotes self-awareness and healing.
