Johan Le Roux Clinical Psychologist Somerset West, works with people who want to better understand their thoughts, emotions, and behaviour. I hold a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology. In addition, I am a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Sports Medicine at the Amsterdam University Medical Centre. Therefore, I continue to grow my knowledge and stay up to date with modern research.
During my training, I worked as a student psychologist at the Nelson Mandela University Psychology Clinic. There, I gained valuable hands-on experience. After that, I completed my internship at Elizabeth Donkin Psychiatric Hospital. This helped me build strong clinical skills in a structured setting.
Furthermore, I completed my community service year in the Department of Correctional Services. I worked in a maximum security correctional centre. As a result, I learned how to support people in challenging environments. These experiences shaped my approach and strengthened my ability to connect with different individuals.
Before I became a psychologist, I worked full-time as a sports broadcaster. I travelled both locally and internationally to cover sporting events. During this time, I interviewed some of the world’s top athletes.
Because of this exposure, I became interested in how the mind works under pressure. I noticed how athletes perform at a high level. At the same time, I saw that they face normal struggles and negative thinking. This sparked my passion for psychology and performance.
Even now, I still do some rugby broadcasting. This keeps me connected to the world of sport. It also supports my interest in mental performance and resilience.
At home, I am a husband and a father of two young boys. Family life plays an important role in how I see the world. In addition, we have a giant St Bernard who keeps life interesting.
In my free time, I enjoy going for long runs. This helps me clear my mind and stay balanced. I value simple moments and use them to recharge.
I also host a parenting podcast called Don’t Tell Me How to Parent. In this podcast, I speak with parenting experts from around the world. Together, we explore different topics about raising children.
Through these conversations, I share useful ideas and real insights. As a result, parents can feel more supported and informed. This work reflects my passion for both psychology and family life.
