Joseph Poullis Chartered Counselling Psychologist Oxford provides compassionate, effective psychological support for individuals seeking lasting change. Choosing therapy marks a powerful step toward healing and personal growth. I bring over 20 years of experience as a chartered counselling psychologist to every client interaction. My approach emphasizes authenticity, acceptance, and meaning, rooted in the existential framework of Viktor Frankl.
Therapy is a collaborative process. I focus on building a genuine therapeutic relationship that fosters psychological resilience and growth. Through a combination of cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing (EMDR), I tailor each session to the individual’s unique needs. Additionally, I integrate body-mind awareness to support emotional regulation and psychological flexibility.
As a chartered counselling psychologist at the Priory, I extend my therapeutic services to a wide range of individuals. Alongside one-to-one therapy, I actively engage in research and teaching. My registration with the UK’s professional regulators, including the British Psychological Society (BPS), ensures high standards of care and ethics. Moreover, I contribute to clinical advancement through education and ongoing research.
My academic background reflects a deep commitment to psychological excellence. I hold a Doctorate in Counselling Psychology, an MA in Counselling Psychology, a post-MA diploma, and an MSc in Psychology of Education. Additionally, I’ve earned a BSc (Hons) in Psychology. These qualifications, gained through institutions like City University London and the UCL Institute of Education, enable me to offer a multifaceted therapeutic approach.
I combine theoretical knowledge with practical expertise. My training in EMDR, CBT, ACT, and other evidence-based modalities ensures comprehensive care. I deliver both face-to-face and remote sessions, always prioritising accessibility and empathy.
My research focuses on emotional intelligence within therapeutic settings. I explore how emotional intelligence shapes the therapeutic relationship and contributes to better client outcomes. For example, my work has investigated the links between trait emotional intelligence and academic performance, as well as its connection to effective therapy. This research informs my day-to-day clinical practice, allowing me to refine and personalise treatment strategies.
