Julia Newton Consultant Physician Newcastle leads in clinical care, research, and education in fatigue and related conditions. She combines her expertise in medicine and research to improve the lives of patients across the North East. Her approach blends compassionate care with evidence-based practice, ensuring every patient receives the best treatment.
Professor Julia Newton treats patients with fatigue linked to chronic diseases. She works with individuals facing liver disease, renal disease, and chronic fatigue syndrome. Her methods address not only the symptoms but also the underlying causes. She also supports patients with conditions that disrupt daily life, helping them regain independence and confidence.
As Medical Director of the Academic Health Science Network – North East & North Cumbria, Professor Newton promotes innovation in healthcare. She connects research findings with frontline care, ensuring patients benefit quickly from medical advances. Her leadership drives collaboration between hospitals, universities, and health services.
Professor Newton is part of Newcastle’s Falls and Syncope Service team. She assesses and treats patients with autonomic disorders, including POTS (Postural Tachycardia Syndrome) and vasovagal syncope. Through targeted strategies, she helps patients manage symptoms and improve daily function. She also ensures that each patient has a personalised plan for ongoing care.
Julia Newton Consultant Physician Newcastle holds a professorship in Ageing and Medicine at Newcastle University’s Institute for Ageing and Health. Her research focuses on the autonomic nervous system and its role in fatigue. She has published numerous studies on ME/CFS, exploring the connection between inflammation and energy levels. Her work contributes to better diagnosis, treatment, and patient outcomes.
Professor Newton serves as Joint Medical Adviser to the charity Action for ME. She advocates for better understanding and support for those living with chronic fatigue and related conditions. By combining clinical work with advocacy, she ensures that patients’ voices influence research and policy decisions.
