Karmen Hutton is a registered Clinical Psychologist affiliated with the Babies in Mind network at the Plattekloof location in Cape Town. She earned her Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology from the University of Cape Town and holds a BPsych(Hons) from Stellenbosch University. Early in her career, she trained in infant observation techniques and perinatal screening through Babies in Mind’s practitioner workshops. Consequently, she developed specialised skills for supporting families during the perinatal period.
Since joining Babies in Mind Plattekloof, Karmen has focused on perinatal psychology, delivering targeted care to mothers, fathers, and infants. Moreover, she leads the local team in implementing attachment-based interventions and early bonding programs. Additionally, she mentors new practitioners in evidence-based methods for postnatal depression screening and infant developmental assessments. As a result, families benefit from cohesive, multidisciplinary support tailored to their unique needs.
Driven by a client-centred philosophy, Karmen tailors every intervention to each family’s context. Furthermore, she remains active in professional development through workshops on mindfulness-based stress reduction, perinatal trauma, and infant mental health. Therefore, her practice combines rigorous training with genuine empathy to foster supportive therapeutic relationships.
