The Karolinska Institutet Sports Medicine Stockholm centre leads in preventing and treating sports injuries. At this institution, you will find cutting-edge research and clinical applications that focus on movement, protection and recovery.
At our centre, we study how physical activity supports health, and we also examine how to prevent injuries. We link movement, risk factors and outcomes in our research. We use sensors and motion tracking tools to measure movement in real world settings. In doing so, we combine large-scale health data with tailored intervention studies. Moreover, we test new methods of rehabilitation and return to sport. We focus on both prevention of injury and effective recovery of athletes and active individuals.
One major stream of our work is joint and ligament injuries, especially the knee. For example, we explore how an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury occurs, compare surgical techniques and follow athletes as they return to sport. We analyse loss of extension, kneeling pain and mobility after surgery. We aim to improve results and speed return safely. Our clinical research drives the translation of findings into real treatment and rehab.
You should work with us because we offer:
Strong research backed by decades of expertise.
A clear link between academic science and clinical practice.
Focus on measurement, recovery and long-term well-being.
Collaboration across disciplines including orthopaedics, physiotherapy and public health.
Also, because we are based at Stockholm, we draw on a wide network of athletes, clinics and research centres.
We provide tailored check-ups, injury risk assessments and rehab programmes. We also deliver education for healthcare professionals on return to sport, prevention and movement optimisation. Our goal is to support both amateur and elite athletes. We emphasise active guidance, real-time feedback and evidence-based methods.
Our centre resides in Stockholm at the Karolinska Institutet campus. We serve national and international partners and collaborate globally. Patients and athletes benefit from our broad reach while receiving care locally. We also lead large-scale studies on physical activity, movement and injury prevention.
We commit to improving your results, reducing injury risk and guiding safe return to sport. Research drives innovation and patient benefit. We continuously update our methods based on the latest evidence. At Karolinska Institutet Sports Medicine Stockholm, we translate science into active support for movement and performance.
