Kate Carruthers Integrative Therapist Bristol offers a unique, multi-faceted approach to emotional healing and mental well-being. With training in several respected theoretical models, Kate combines her knowledge to tailor support to your individual needs. She blends compassion with clarity to create a respectful, trusting therapeutic relationship that promotes real change.
Kate draws from multiple evidence-based approaches, including person-centred therapy, relational work, transactional analysis, internal family systems, somatic therapies, and mindfulness. By integrating these diverse methods, she ensures that therapy remains both personalised and flexible.
Additionally, Kate focuses on collaboration. You won’t just sit and talk—you’ll engage in an active process that deepens your understanding while building practical tools. Her sessions combine insight with action, allowing clients to apply what they learn immediately.
Kate specialises in trauma, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and complex PTSD (CPTSD). Traumatic experiences often leave lasting emotional imprints. These can affect safety, trust, and daily functioning. Kate’s structured trauma therapy model addresses this through three stages: safety and stabilisation, trauma processing, and integration.
Through targeted support, clients learn how trauma impacts thoughts, behaviours, and emotions. Symptoms such as flashbacks, nightmares, hyperarousal, dissociation, and intrusive thoughts are approached with sensitivity and skill. Throughout, Kate provides techniques and strategies that can be practised between sessions, along with additional tools and worksheets.
Kate believes therapy must extend beyond the therapy room. That’s why her sessions include hands-on techniques, reflections, and real-world exercises. Each week, clients build their emotional resilience with guided strategies they can implement in everyday life. This approach empowers clients to feel supported yet independent in their healing journey.
Since May 2023, Kate has worked at Priory Bristol as an integrative therapist. She offers both one-to-one and group therapy sessions for inpatients and outpatients. She is a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), ensuring her work adheres to the highest ethical and professional standards.
Kate Carruthers continuously updates her skills through advanced training. She has completed certifications in Embodied Practice, Somatic Trauma Therapy, Internal Family Systems, and Creative Methods for Working with Trauma.
