Dr Katy Jones studied Medicine at Newcastle University between 1991 and 1996. Following graduation, she completed her junior doctor training in Newcastle. This early exposure to the region’s healthcare system helped shape her professional path in nephrology.
From the very beginning, Dr Jones showed a keen interest in research and patient care. These experiences laid the foundation for her career in renal medicine. She then pursued further qualifications and deepened her clinical insight.

After completing her doctoral research, she undertook SpR training in the Northern Region. This period marked the beginning of her consultant career, which she launched at James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough.
In 2010, Dr Jones joined the Freeman Hospital, where she focuses primarily on transplant patient care. Her role allows her to follow patients throughout their transplant journey, from initial consultation to ongoing management.
Dr Jones takes an active role in shaping clinical standards. She leads Clinical Governance for the Renal Department, ensuring excellence in safety and care delivery. Moreover, she promotes multidisciplinary collaboration to achieve the best possible results for her patients.

She helped establish the new Masters in Transplantation program at Newcastle University.
