Kirti Lawrence Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist Edinburgh brings over 24 years of experience to her clinical work with children, young people, and families. She is a full member of the Association of Child Psychotherapists, regulated by the Professional Standards Authority. Her commitment to psychoanalytic psychotherapy combines deep clinical expertise with extensive sector-wide experience.
Kirti’s career spans Early Years, Education, Health, Social Work, and the Third Sector. Over time, she has supported children with a broad range of emotional and behavioral challenges. Notably, she worked for more than 14 years with children and young people who were Care Experienced. This included those in Foster and Kinship Care, Residential Care, Secure Units, and babies with incarcerated parents.
To deepen her knowledge, she pursued the only UK-based mental health specialist training dedicated exclusively to children, adolescents, and families. She qualified as a Child and Adolescent Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist through this intensive program.
Kirti’s approach emphasizes trauma-focused, attachment-based psychotherapy. She works with children and young people aged 0 to 25. Her clinical services address depression, anxiety, OCD, relationship struggles, eating disorders, phobias, and self-harm.
In particular, she specializes in complex cases involving neurodevelopmental conditions, often alongside Autism and multiple diagnoses. By focusing on each individual’s internal world and developmental history, she tailors her treatment plans to support long-lasting change.
In addition to therapeutic treatment, Kirti offers comprehensive assessments. These include School Observations and in-depth emotional state assessments. These tools aid in creating tailored support plans for children and adolescents.
Kirti also provides supervision and consultations for professionals working in difficult or puzzling situations. Her insights are especially valuable for teams navigating emotional and behavioral complexities.
Furthermore, she supports foster carers, kinship carers, adoptive parents, and biological parents. Her goal is to help caregivers understand and respond to challenging behaviors with greater confidence and empathy.
Kirti’s academic background reflects her dedication to continuous learning. She holds a Master of Professional Studies in Child and Adolescent Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy from the University of East London (2020). She also earned an MA in Infant Observation Studies (2004), an MA in English and American Literature (1989), and a BA in English Honors (1985).
Her professional affiliations ensure the highest standards of practice and accountability in her therapeutic work.
