Laurence Church Consultant Psychiatrist Surrey is a trusted name in mental health services, offering expert psychiatric care at Priory Hospital Woking. Dr Laurence Church joined the Priory Group in 2012 and quickly became known for his dedication to adult psychiatry and addictions. His early success with the Guildford Community Mental Health Recovery Service earned him two NHS Clinical Excellence Awards for outstanding patient care.
Dr Church transitioned to full-time practice at Priory Hospital Woking in 2014. He now focuses entirely on delivering care to outpatients and those in inpatient or day care programs. Working alongside a multidisciplinary team, he ensures each patient receives the highest level of tailored psychiatric treatment. Moreover, Dr Church collaborates closely with fellow consultants through a peer support network at the hospital, which strengthens the quality of care.
In the past four years, Dr Church has served as an approved appraiser for the Priory Group. He visits other consultants to perform annual appraisals, promoting high standards across the network. Alongside clinical work, he remains deeply committed to education. He frequently presents to local GPs on diverse mental health topics and consistently receives positive feedback for his engaging approach.

Dr Church graduated with an MBChB in 1998 from the University of Birmingham. He became a Member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists in 2002 and earned a Master’s degree in Psychiatric Research in 2007. His specialist training includes experience at St George’s, Maudsley, and Guy’s Hospital schemes in London. He joined the GMC specialist register for general adult and old age psychiatry in 2009.
Dr Church co-authored Psychiatry PRN, which earned a “Highly Commended” recognition from the British Medical Association in 2010. He has published research in peer-reviewed journals, focusing on psychiatric education and cannabis use in early psychosis. His insights have been quoted in the media, highlighting his role as a leading voice in the mental health field.
