Lorna Richards Consultant Psychiatrist Surrey leads expert care in adult eating disorders with tailored assessments and treatment plans. Since joining Priory in February 2018, Dr Richards delivers specialist therapeutic interventions alongside a skilled multidisciplinary team. She prioritizes personalized care to support each patient’s unique needs and recovery journey.
Dr Richards graduated from the University of Birmingham Medical School in 1995, earning an MBChB with Honours in Epidemiology and Public Health. She trained in psychiatry at prestigious institutions, including the Royal Free, University College London Hospitals, and South London and Maudsley Mental Health Trust. By 2003, she completed higher specialist training and achieved MRCPsych status.
Moreover, Dr Richards expanded her expertise by earning a Master’s degree in Medical Ethics and Law from King’s College London in 2005. This unique combination of clinical and ethical training enhances her holistic approach to psychiatric care.
Over 14 years, Dr Richards worked at Barnet Enfield and Haringey Mental Health Trust within one of London’s four comprehensive Eating Disorders Services. During this time, she developed and led the community service for a decade, acting as clinical lead in her final two years. She then joined Priory to continue providing top-tier psychiatric care.
Besides clinical duties, she dedicates herself to teaching and training future psychiatrists. Dr Richards acts as a clinical supervisor for higher trainees and is a recognized teacher at UCL Medical School. She also lectures on clinical nutrition and presents at international conferences.
Dr Richards actively influences national standards by contributing to guidelines, policies, and training programs. She serves on executive committees within the Royal College of Psychiatrists and represents eating disorders at a regional level. Additionally, she was part of the NHS England Clinical Reference Group, helping to shape specialist commissioning.
Her academic research focuses on severe eating disorders, advancing knowledge and improving treatment outcomes.
