Margaret Dayan Consultant Ophthalmologist Newcastle leads neuro-ophthalmology clinical services at the Royal Victoria Infirmary. She also serves as an Associate Clinical Lecturer at Newcastle University. With extensive experience and dedication, Miss Dayan provides specialized care in complex ophthalmic conditions.
Miss Dayan holds key leadership roles including Secretary of the British Isles Neuro-ophthalmology Club (BINOC) and Committee Member of the UK Neuro-ophthalmology Society (UKNOS). These positions allow her to influence best practices and advance neuro-ophthalmology care regionally and nationally.
Graduating from Oxford, Miss Dayan trained in Leeds and the Northern Region before completing a fellowship in neuro-ophthalmology and ocular motility at Oxford. She focuses on neuro-ophthalmology, adult ocular motility, and botulinum toxin treatment. Furthermore, she collaborates closely with the regional neurorehabilitation service.
Her practice covers a wide range of complex cases. She treats patients with visual impairments related to brain injuries, including higher cognitive visual dysfunction. Miss Dayan’s expertise ensures tailored and effective management plans for every patient.
Miss Dayan also plays an active role in education. She developed the Newcastle Course on Orbital and Neuro-Imaging for Ophthalmology and teaches on the Newcastle Cadaveric Strabismus course. Additionally, she convenes seminars and sessions for the Royal College of Ophthalmologists and frequently speaks at national neuro-ophthalmology meetings.
As the Neuro-ophthalmology Section Editor for Health Education England’s eLearning for Health website, she contributes valuable educational content. She also mentors ophthalmology, neurology, and medical trainees, serves as an educational supervisor, and facilitates Trust Appraiser training courses. Her dedication fosters growth and excellence in future healthcare professionals.
