Matthew Lant Psychotherapist London brings over eight years of clinical experience to individuals seeking compassionate, evidence-based mental health care. I am a BABCP-accredited cognitive behavioural therapist and trained EMDR clinician, working in both the NHS and private sectors. I also hold qualifications as a clinical supervisor and lecturer, allowing me to support clients and professionals alike.
Throughout my career, I have worked with complex mental health conditions and supported people from diverse backgrounds. I’m passionate about reducing social and health inequalities through focused therapeutic intervention and education.
My training includes a Postgraduate Diploma in CBT, a Postgraduate Certificate in Psychological Wellbeing Practice, and a PGCE in Special Educational Needs. I am currently pursuing a PhD in Mental Health at Lancaster University. My doctoral research explores the experiences of mature working-class men at UK universities, focusing on issues of identity and inequality. This research continues to influence my therapeutic work, allowing me to better understand client perspectives.
Additionally, I completed EMDR training with the EMDR Academy and CBT supervisor training at the University of East Anglia. These credentials equip me to deliver high-quality care and provide guidance to therapists under my supervision.
Currently, I serve as the OCD Therapy Lead at Priory Hospital North London. This position involves coordinating therapy programmes, collaborating closely with the clinical service lead, and supporting a dedicated team of therapists and support staff. Every day, I ensure the therapy service runs smoothly while upholding the highest clinical standards.
This role also gives me the opportunity to directly impact care outcomes for individuals dealing with obsessive-compulsive disorder. Furthermore, it allows me to train and mentor colleagues, enhancing the overall quality of the service.
In my clinical practice, I regularly support clients experiencing anxiety, depression, body dysmorphic disorder (BDD), phobias, OCD, and avoidant restrictive food intake disorder (ARFID). I draw on both CBT and EMDR to tailor treatment to the unique needs of each individual. Moreover, I take an inclusive approach to therapy, with a focus on accessibility and equity.
Because of my background in special education, I also specialise in working with students with SEND. This additional expertise allows me to adapt my approach to clients with learning needs, offering them more personalised support.
My interest in research and social equity continues to shape my professional journey. I believe psychotherapy should be accessible and grounded in understanding real-world challenges. That’s why I remain committed to both academic research and clinical innovation.
Whether you are looking for therapeutic support or professional supervision, my goal is to provide informed, empathetic, and effective care.
