Meriem Gawi Counsellor London offers integrative counselling with a humanistic approach rooted in empathy, respect, and cultural sensitivity. From her private practice in North London, Meriem works with adults and young people across various backgrounds. She combines evidence-based techniques with warmth and clarity to help clients move forward in life.
With over 25 years of experience in the helping professions, Meriem brings a deep understanding of human struggles. She began her counselling journey in 2014 at the Centre for Personal and Professional Development (CPPD). Today, she is a registered member of the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP), committed to the highest standards of professional care.
Before becoming a counsellor, Meriem worked as an Arabic and French interpreter and a community advocate. Later, she trained as a Children and Families social worker, where she supported survivors of domestic abuse for more than 12 years. Organisations she’s worked with include the Domestic Violence Intervention Project (DVIP) and Woman’s Trust.
Meriem supports people dealing with anxiety, depression, bereavement, postnatal depression, and binge eating disorder (BED). She also works with those facing stress, panic attacks, suicidal thoughts, and PTSD. Her experience includes helping individuals struggling with interpersonal issues, self-harm, and the lasting impact of trauma.
Every session is tailored to your unique needs. Whether you’re seeking short-term help or long-term therapy, Meriem adapts her method to suit you.
Meriem draws from a variety of therapeutic techniques including:
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
Humanistic Integrative Counselling
General Counselling
She offers sessions in English, Arabic, and French, making her support accessible to a diverse range of clients.
Meriem’s approach focuses on raising awareness and gently challenging unhelpful beliefs. Her goal is not to provide quick fixes but to support meaningful growth. She offers a safe, relaxed, and confidential environment where clients feel heard and respected.
You and Meriem will work at your own pace to understand what’s holding you back. Together, you’ll find a way to lift the heavy cloud and move forward with renewed clarity and confidence.
In 2012, Meriem co-produced the Al-Aman Toolkit, designed to help professionals better understand cultural and religious issues linked to domestic abuse in Arab communities. Topics include forced marriage, female genital mutilation, and honour-based violence.
