Mrs Saabierah Towfie serves as a Clinical Psychologist at Akeso Kenilworth Clinic in Cape Town. She earned her B. Psych (cum laude) and Master’s in Psychology from the University of the Western Cape. Early in her career, she interned at the Saartjie Baartman Centre for Abused Women and Children, where she conducted psycho-diagnostic assessments and individual psychotherapy. Subsequently, she worked at the Cape Town Drug Counselling Centre, immersing herself in addiction counselling.
Furthermore, Mrs Towfie completed hospital internships at Stikland and Tygerberg, followed by community service at Lentegeur Psychiatric Hospital. During that time, she supported both general psychiatric and forensic patients. Later, she joined the Centre for Student Support Services at Stellenbosch University, offering mental health workshops and crisis interventions. She also led the Male Admissions Unit at Lentegeur, refining her skills in acute crisis management. Consequently, she developed a versatile, evidence-based toolkit that she now applies at Akeso Kenilworth.

Akeso Kenilworth Clinic features modern therapy suites, observation rooms and a group lounge. Moreover, Mrs Towfie integrates biofeedback and digital mood-tracking tools into her interventions, enabling precise progress monitoring. She collaborates weekly with psychiatrists, occupational therapists and nursing staff in multidisciplinary case reviews to refine treatment plans.
Additionally, she co-facilitates the clinic’s adolescent resilience programme, using evidence-based modules to empower young clients. In selected cases, she incorporates virtual reality exposure therapy to address specific phobias and trauma responses. Consequently, her clients experience immersive, engaging treatment. She also mentors junior clinicians through on-site training, thus fostering high standards across the team. Finally, she invites families to follow-up workshops that reinforce progress and sustain long-term wellbeing.
