Natascha Plani Physiotherapist Alberton started her journey in physiotherapy in 1994. She earned her Bachelor of Physiotherapy degree from the University of Pretoria. In 2010, she completed a Master of Science in Traumatology at the University of the Witwatersrand. Since joining the practice in 1998, she has played a vital role in patient care and professional development.
Natascha gained international experience in 2007 and 2008. She worked in Australia as a project manager for the Cancer Services Networks (CanNet) Project. Her role focused on acute care and policy development in the Northern Territory Department of Health. This opportunity broadened her perspective on physiotherapy in different healthcare systems.
Her expertise lies in intensive and critical care, trauma, and orthopaedics. She built her extensive experience in the Cardiac and Trauma Intensive Care Units at Netcare Union Hospital. Currently, she continues her work at Netcare Alberton Hospital. To strengthen her skills, she completed post-graduate diplomas in Orthopaedic Manual Therapy (1999) and Cardiopulmonary Physiotherapy (2000).
Natascha actively contributes to physiotherapy education. She tutors and supervises both undergraduates and postgraduates. In 2007, she facilitated third-year physiotherapy students’ rotations at Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital. From 2002 to 2020, she supervised fourth-year students in intensive care at Netcare Union Hospital, a program that now continues at Netcare Alberton Hospital.
She also lectured fifth-year medical students at the University of the Witwatersrand on physiotherapy’s role in ICU and surgical care. Since 2002, she has presented courses for the Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation Group (CPRG) of the South African Society of Physiotherapy (SASP).
Natascha frequently presents at both local and international conferences. In 2012, she received the Discovery Clinical Leadership Excellence Award for the best poster presentation at the International Critical Care Congress. She also participates in global research projects and surveys.
She has served on multiple physiotherapy committees. From 2006 to 2012, she was part of the SASP’s finance committee. She also led the CPRG as secretary (2003-2007) and chairperson (2011-2016). Additionally, she played key roles in organizing national and international physiotherapy congresses.
Beyond physiotherapy, Natascha enjoys reading, traveling, and spending time in the bushveld. She stays active by training at the gym and running. She has successfully completed six Comrades Marathons, showcasing her dedication and perseverance.
Natascha Plani Physiotherapist Alberton remains committed to advancing physiotherapy through patient care, education, and research.
