With a strong background in education and research, Nikki empowers individuals to regain balance, build resilience, and foster personal growth.
As an experienced Registered Counsellor in Rondebosch, Nikki Boyd is committed to helping adolescents, young adults and adults improve their emotional well-being. She supports individuals and groups who are dealing with stress, anxiety, depression, trauma, and grief.
Her integrative approach ensures that therapy is personalized to meet each client or group’s unique needs. Moreover, she believes that, although life’s struggles may create disconnection, the right support can restore a sense of purpose, meaning, and emotional balance.
By incorporating psychoeducation, mindfulness-based therapy and TRE® (Tension & Trauma Release Exercises), she provides clients with practical tools to reconnect with their inner strength, manage stress more effectively, and enhance emotional resilience.
Nikki’s therapeutic approach is guided by the belief that each person is intrinsically whole. Sometimes, this sense of wellbeing can be unbalanced by the pressures of daily life, personal struggles, and unresolved trauma. Fortunately, therapy provides a pathway to healing and re- self-discovery.
Her services include:
Through these methods, Nikki empowers her clients to enhance self-awareness, emotional regulation and foster long-term well-being.
One of the core approaches Nikki integrates into her work is mindfulness-based therapy. Mindfulness is both a natural psychological process and a learned practice of present moment awareness. Research has shown that regular mindfulness practice can help to reduce emotional dysregulation (e.g. stress, anxiety, depression and emotional exhaustion) and increase clarity, focus, and well-being.
During her MPhil Mindfulness research with medical students, Nikki found that participants experienced significant emotional and mental health improvements after completing a six-week mindfulness program.
Group mindfulness-based interventions and individual mindfulness-based therapy teach clients to develop healthier coping skills with improved emotional resilience.
In addition to mindfulness, Nikki offers Tension & Trauma Release Exercises (TRE®), a highly effective technique designed to release stored stress and tension from the body.
But how does it work? TRE® consists of six simple exercises that activate the body’s natural neurogenic tremor response. This innate shaking process helps discharge deep-seated stress and trauma, restoring a sense of calm, ease, and emotional balance.
Many of Nikki’s clients have found that, with regular TRE® practice, they experience:
This technique is particularly beneficial for individuals experiencing chronic stress, trauma, or emotional tension. TRE® provides a holistic way to support healing and personal growth.
Nikki provides compassionate, evidence-based support in the following areas:
By addressing these areas with a client-centered approach, Nikki ensures that her clients receive the best possible care tailored to their unique needs.
Nikki’s extensive academic and professional training reflects her commitment to offering evidence-based therapeutic practices. Her qualifications include MPhil Mindfulness (Cum Laude), PG Mindfulness-Based Interventions, B. Psych., PG Counsell Dipl B. Arts & H. Dipl. Educ. Certified TRE® Provider
With a deep understanding of psychology, mindfulness, and trauma recovery, Nikki continuously refines her approach to ensure the most effective support for her clients.
If you’re feeling overwhelmed, struggling with anxiety or sadness, or facing life’s challenges, professional support can make a difference. By integrating psychoeducation, skills and client-centered counselling, Nikki Boyd provides a compassionate and effective approach, helping clients to regain emotional balance, build resilience, and improve overall well-being.
