Ninette Visser is a founding Occupational Therapist at Strubensvalley Therapy Centre in Strubens Valley, Roodepoort. She earned her Bachelor of Occupational Therapy from the University of Pretoria and launched her career at Leratong Hospital, supporting children with developmental delays, cerebral palsy, and other neuromotor challenges. In 1997, Ninette co-founded Strubensvalley Therapy Centre, where she helped shape its multi-disciplinary pediatric model. Consequently, she built a reputation for integrating evidence-based practices into every aspect of therapeutic care.
Moreover, Ninette honed her expertise in the United States, working with children who present complex sensory and motor needs. As a result, she introduced advanced sensory integration techniques and assistive technologies—such as dynamic seating systems and interactive therapy tools—into the Centre’s offerings. Furthermore, she holds certifications in Ayres Sensory Integration and DIR® Floortime, and she serves on the board of the South African Institute for Sensory Integration (SAISI). These roles enable her to influence national standards and mentor emerging therapists. Today, she combines over 25 years of experience with a global outlook, ensuring that every child benefits from her depth of knowledge.
Developmental Assessment & Therapy (0–4 Years)
Ninette conducts early screenings using tools like the Peabody Developmental Motor Scales. She then develops individualized intervention plans focused on milestones in motor skills, social engagement, and self-care routines.
Motor & Perceptual Development
She delivers targeted exercises—such as bead stringing, obstacle courses, and handwriting drills—to refine fine and gross motor skills. Moreover, she employs adaptive equipment (e.g., therapy swings, balance boards) to maximize engagement and motivate progress.
Sensory Integration Approach
In a dedicated sensory gym, Ninette guides children through structured sensory activities. Consequently, clients learn to manage hypersensitivity or hyposensitivity to stimuli, which improves concentration and emotional regulation.
Task-Centered Group Therapy
She facilitates small groups focused on practical tasks, such as cooking or gardening. These sessions build functional life skills, social cooperation, and self-confidence in a supportive environment.
DIR® Floortime
Ninette coaches parents in using Floortime strategies at home, fostering secure attachments and promoting cognitive development. Therefore, families gain practical tools for ongoing support beyond therapy sessions.
Assistive Technology Consultation
She evaluates and recommends devices—like text-to-speech software and adaptive keyboards—to support children’s independence in school and at home. Additionally, she trains caregivers and teachers in their effective use.
Strubensvalley Therapy Centre offers a child-friendly setting with bright décor, soft lighting, and observation windows so that caregivers can remain close without disrupting sessions. Furthermore, the Centre integrates digital progress-tracking platforms, which deliver clear milestone dashboards to families and multidisciplinary teams. As a result, everyone stays informed and engaged.
Ninette practices in both English and Afrikaans, which ensures that language never impedes therapeutic rapport. Moreover, she provides telehealth follow-ups for families who require remote support, thereby maintaining continuity of care. She also schedules quarterly case reviews with school staff, so that classroom accommodations align with each child’s evolving needs.
Throughout her career, Ninette has led professional workshops on sensory integration and motor development, sharing insights with other healthcare providers. Consequently, she uplifts the broader community of practitioners. Her collaborative style blends warmth with structure: she invites families to co-design goals and evaluates progress together. As a result, caregivers feel empowered and informed every step of the way.
