Oluwagbenga Odeyemi Consultant Psychiatrist Birmingham is a trusted name in the field of general adult psychiatry. Since joining Priory Group in 2016, Dr Odeyemi has delivered specialist psychiatric care at Priory Hospital Woodbourne in Birmingham. He serves as the clinical lead for the Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), supporting young adults aged 18–25.
Dr Odeyemi also manages patients in the general adult acute ward. His leadership extends beyond patient care—he stepped into the role of acting medical director from October 2017 to January 2018 and continues to deputise when needed. Additionally, as the medical education lead, he organises key education meetings for colleagues and clinical staff.
Dr Odeyemi began his journey in medicine in Nigeria, graduating in 1998. By 2001, he had entered the field of psychiatry and later completed his postgraduate training in the UK. He achieved MRCPsych status in 2007 and earned a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) from the General Medical Council in 2011.
Having worked within the NHS and now Priory Healthcare, Dr Odeyemi focuses on treating adults of working age. He brings deep experience across inpatient and outpatient settings, including crisis resolution, home treatment teams, and ECT services.
He is an active member of the National Association of Psychiatric Intensive Care Units (NAPICU). His involvement includes helping set and improve standards across PICUs. Dr Odeyemi promotes least restrictive practices and a patient-first approach. He has also served as a peer reviewer for the Royal College of Psychiatrists’ ECT Accreditation Service.
Throughout his career, Dr Odeyemi has focused on mental health awareness and reducing stigma. These themes formed the basis of his Master of Public Health dissertation at the University of Leeds. He also contributed to initiatives promoting dental care among mental health patients in rehabilitation.
He currently helps recruit for various research projects. These include studies on borderline personality disorder, psychosis, and brain imaging techniques like diffusion tensor imaging.
