About Juliette

Juliette began her Pilates journey while training as a professional ballet dancer. After an injury, she turned to Pilates for recovery and soon developed a strong passion for the method. She trained with Carol Appel and Jennifer Stacey at the Center for Sports Medicine, St. Francis Hospital in San Francisco. During this time, Juliette also studied to become a physical therapist.

After moving to the UK to complete her studies, Juliette worked as a Pilates instructor at The Edinburgh Pilates Centre. In 1994 and 1995, she founded a Pilates centre in Aarhus, Denmark. Over the years, she co-founded the Pilates for Staff programme at Oxford University Hospitals Trust, owned the Pilates of Oxford Studio, and worked with Balance Studios in Witney and TOPS in Oxfordshire.

Now, Juliette works independently as a senior Pilates instructor and physiotherapist in Oxford. She combines her extensive experience to help clients improve strength, stability, and wellbeing.

Juliette holds a BSc Hons in Physiotherapy and is a Senior Registered Physiotherapist (SRP, MCSP). She is recognised as a senior physiotherapist and senior barre instructor, offering expert guidance based on her qualifications.

Services

Oxford Barre Pilates offers tailored Pilates and barre classes to strengthen the core and improve overall body conditioning. These sessions suit a wide range of clients, including dancers, athletes, those recovering from injury, and anyone seeking better fitness.

Classes focus on controlled, precise movements to improve posture, flexibility, and muscle tone. By combining Pilates principles with barre techniques, the workouts target the body’s ‘centre’ or core. This approach fosters stability and balance.

Private sessions are also available for those needing personalised programmes. Juliette’s physiotherapy background allows her to design exercises that meet individual needs, whether for injury rehabilitation or performance enhancement.

Additional Information Oxford Barre Pilates

Joseph Hubertus Pilates developed the Pilates method over a century ago. He created these exercises while working with injured soldiers on the Isle of Man during World War I. Joe Pilates discovered that strengthening core muscles was key to their recovery, rather than focusing only on lost limbs.

After the war, Joe and his wife Clara opened the first Pilates studio in New York City. The method quickly gained popularity among dancers from companies like the New York City Ballet and the American Ballet Theatre. Elite athletes and performers also embraced it.

Today, Pilates is widely recognised as an effective conditioning tool. It helps prevent injury and supports recovery. Oxford Barre Pilates continues this tradition by combining therapeutic insight with expert instruction. This helps clients achieve long-term health and improved physical function.
