Clinical Psychologist Slough
- Slough, UK
Dr Katie Splevins is a Chartered Clinical Psychologist with extensive experience in perinatal and child mental health. She has worked for over a decade within NHS Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) and perinatal services, specialising in the wellbeing of parents and children from pre-conception through toddlerhood and beyond. Since 2020, Katie has run a private practice in York alongside her role as Perinatal Clinical Lead for NHS England and NHS Improvement in the North, where she supports the development of perinatal and maternity mental health services across Northern England.
Katie’s approach centres on nurturing connections—logical, human, and synaptic. She believes understanding how our brains respond to emotions and experiences helps us cultivate a compassionate mind, giving us the courage to face suffering and the wisdom to ease it. She offers a non-judgemental, supportive space to explore feelings and build emotional safety for parents and families.
Katie provides psychological support to parents, partners, and families navigating the perinatal period and early childhood challenges. Her expertise includes:
Supporting emotional wellbeing from pre-conception through pregnancy, birth, and early parenthood
Helping parents make sense of difficult feelings such as anxiety, depression, or trauma related to childbirth or parenting
Offering guidance on how to create emotionally safe relationships within families to foster healthy child development
Facilitating the development of new coping strategies by understanding brain plasticity and how to rewire responses to stress and adversity
Supporting families in making positive changes that benefit both parents and children over the long term
Katie also integrates her knowledge of neuroscience and attachment to promote both parent and child wellbeing, recognising the vital importance of early experiences in shaping the developing brain.
Katie is a mum herself and values the power of connection in healing and growth. Before clinical training, she spent over ten years in the charitable sector, working with seldom-heard communities worldwide to highlight issues of poverty and injustice. This broad experience informs her compassionate and inclusive approach to therapy.
Clients can expect a collaborative process focused on building emotional safety and resilience. Katie’s clinical and leadership roles ensure she remains at the forefront of evidence-based practice and service development in perinatal mental health.
