Philip Toozs-Hobson Obstetrics & Gynaecology Birmingham has always been more than a career—it’s a lifelong calling. From the very beginning, Philip knew he wanted to help women through every stage of life. That passion led him into Obstetrics and Gynaecology, where he quickly stood out for his drive, curiosity, and hands-on approach.
Driven by a hunger to learn, Philip paused clinical training to undertake a prestigious research fellowship. Working alongside renowned Urogynaecologist Linda Cardozo, he found his true path. During this time, he developed a strong focus on pelvic floor dysfunction and maternal childbirth injury. These interests continue to shape his clinical and academic work.
Over the last 30 years, Philip has consistently led clinical research programs. His goal is always clear: improve women’s health outcomes through evidence-based care. Furthermore, he actively promotes a holistic, woman-centred approach. This empowers patients to make informed, confident decisions about their treatment.
Philip’s reputation in Urogynaecology reaches far beyond Birmingham. His work in managing prolapse and urinary incontinence has gained global recognition. In addition, he has authored over 230 scientific papers. His research spans psychological aspects of urinary incontinence, links with obesity, and methods to reduce preterm birth risks.
Because of his outstanding contributions, the Department of Health honoured him with a national silver CEA award. This prestigious award recognises only a handful of specialists, placing Philip among the UK’s top Urogynaecologists.
Although highly accomplished, Philip remains deeply connected to his patients. He takes time to understand their concerns, listen to their stories, and guide them with empathy. His clinical work covers a wide range of procedures—from pelvic floor surgery to bladder Botox and laparoscopic hysterectomy.
Moreover, he believes in maintaining balance. When not working, Philip enjoys walking with his wife, adult children, and their dog, Spud. These moments help him recharge and stay grounded.
