Preston Physiotherapy and Sports Injuries Clinic is led by Duncan Mason, a highly qualified physiotherapist with over 30 years of experience. Duncan is registered with the Health Professions Council and is a member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy and the Association of Chartered Physiotherapists in Sports Medicine. He also holds a Level 4 qualification in Sports Massage and serves as a UK Athletics Physiotherapist specialising in endurance events.
Duncan qualified in 1990 and began his career working in the National Health Service (NHS). There, he gained broad experience treating a variety of musculoskeletal conditions. He specialised in diagnosing and managing upper limb, lower limb, and spinal injuries, often working alongside orthopaedic surgeons. This background has shaped his expert clinical skills.
Duncan has vast experience in managing and preventing running injuries. He has worked closely with many of Great Britain’s top distance runners and endurance athletes. His knowledge stems from both his clinical work and his own competitive running career, which includes a personal best of 65 minutes for the half marathon and a top-30 finish in the elite field at the London Marathon.
Duncan’s work with UK Athletics is extensive. He has supported several Great Britain athletics team altitude camps in the French Pyrenees and Kenya. Additionally, he acted as team physiotherapist at major events such as the World Half Marathon Championships, European Cup 10,000m, World Cross Country, and European Championships.
He also took part in the medical team for the London 2012 Olympic Games altitude holding camps in Font Romeu and was involved at the European Championships in Barcelona in 2010. Furthermore, Duncan provides regular physiotherapy to GB Athletics Team members throughout the year.
In addition to his clinical practice, Duncan conducts research on running gait and biomechanics. His work focuses on how running injuries affect athletes’ biomechanics. He currently lectures in physiotherapy at Salford University, teaching both undergraduate and postgraduate students. This ongoing academic involvement helps him stay up-to-date with the latest advances in physiotherapy and sports medicine.
