Professor Alain G. H. Assounga is a distinguished nephrologist based in Durban, South Africa, renowned for his significant contributions to kidney care and research. He serves as the Head of the Discipline of Nephrology at the Nelson R. Mandela School of Medicine, University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN), and as Chief Specialist at Inkosi Albert Luthuli Central Hospital. Prof. Assounga received his medical training in Brazzaville, with advanced studies in nephrology and immunology in France and the United States. Before relocating to Durban, he lectured and practised medicine in the Congo and Botswana. ​
