Professor Sam Janes is a distinguished General and Respiratory Medicine Physician, consulting at several top medical institutions. He also holds the title of Professor of Respiratory Medicine at University College Hospital.
With years of clinical and academic experience, Prof Janes specializes in evaluating patients with symptoms such as shortness of breath, persistent coughing, and other chest-related issues. His goal is to provide swift, accurate diagnoses and guide patients through effective treatment plans.
Professor Janes serves as the Head of the Respiratory Research Department at University College London (UCL). Additionally, he is the Vice Chair of the National Clinical Expert Group on Lung Cancer. His leadership extends to national-level projects like the SUMMIT Study, which screens 25,000 Londoners for early-stage lung cancer.
Furthermore, his work in clinical trials and diagnostic strategies has helped shape current best practices. These efforts directly impact patient care by introducing innovative methods for early detection and treatment.
Beyond clinical care, Prof Janes has built a strong academic profile. After earning a prestigious Medical Research Council (MRC) Training Fellowship for a PhD, he completed post-doctoral research at the Cancer Research UK Lincoln’s Inn Fields Institute. He then earned the competitive MRC Clinician Scientist award, allowing him to move to UCL and expand his work on lung cancer development and new therapies.
To date, he has published more than 150 peer-reviewed manuscripts in top journals such as Nature, Science, and the New England Journal of Medicine. His research not only informs clinical practice but also pushes the boundaries of what’s possible in respiratory medicine.
Professor Janes provides a wide range of procedures tailored to patient needs. These include lung function testing, bronchoscopy, endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS), and overnight oximetry. He also offers video consultations and personalized exercise advice.
