About

Dr Mthobeli Vundla is a specialist orthodontist dedicated to providing expert orthodontic care. After earning his BChD and PDD-Ortho from the University of the Western Cape, he further specialised with an MDent in Orthodontics from the University of the Witwatersrand. As an orthodontist, he has completed at least three additional years of specialised training beyond his dental degree.

Orthodontics focuses on correcting dental irregularities, including overbites, underbites, overcrowding, and misalignment. These treatments are suitable for individuals of almost any age and can significantly enhance oral health and aesthetics.

Services

Adolescent Orthodontics

Teenagers benefit greatly from orthodontic treatments, as their developing jaws allow for effective corrections. Dr Vundla provides tailored solutions for adolescents, ensuring a confident and healthy smile.

Braces & Aligners

  • Traditional Metal Braces – Standard metal brackets attached to teeth and connected by wire, gradually aligning the teeth through periodic adjustments.
  • Clear Braces – A less noticeable alternative to metal braces, offering the same benefits with a more discreet appearance.
  • Invisalign Clear Aligners – Custom-made, removable clear aligners designed to gradually shift teeth into the correct position without wires or brackets.
  • Lingual Braces – Braces attached to the inner side of the teeth for an almost invisible orthodontic solution.

Surgical Orthodontics

For patients requiring advanced intervention, surgical orthodontics can help correct severe jaw irregularities and improve both function and aesthetics.

Adult Orthodontic Treatment

Braces are not just for teenagers—adults can also benefit from orthodontic treatment. A well-aligned smile can enhance self-confidence and improve dental health. Orthodontic corrections in adults can also help address destructive bites that contribute to excessive tooth wear.

Early Treatment

Interceptive orthodontic treatment can begin as early as 6 or 7 years old. Early intervention helps manage conditions like protruding teeth and crossbites, which can cause uneven jaw growth. Signs that a child may need early orthodontic treatment include:

  • Thumb or finger sucking
  • Teeth grinding or clenching
  • Deep bite or protruding teeth

Retainers

After orthodontic treatment, retainers help maintain the corrected alignment of teeth. These removable appliances ensure that teeth stay in their new positions over time.
