Ms Theodora Stavropoulou serves as Consultant Ophthalmologist and Clinical Partner at Newmedica Plymouth Eye Centre. She earned her MD and MSc in Greece. Then, she trained at the 1st Department of Ophthalmology, University of Athens. Subsequently, she completed advanced clinical training at the Royal Eye Infirmary in Plymouth. As a result, she gained expertise in both medical and surgical retina. Moreover, she achieved Fellowship of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists in 2019. She joined the Royal Eye Infirmary as consultant in 2020. Consequently, she leads the medical retina, surgical retina, and uveitis services at Newmedica Plymouth.
Her focus lies in diagnosing and treating retinal and inflammatory eye diseases. She specialises in age‑related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinal vein occlusion, and uveitis. Additionally, she performs cataract surgery with meticulous care. She applies advanced imaging—such as Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT)—to guide treatment plans. Furthermore, she collaborates closely with optometrists, nurses, and surgeons. Therefore, patients receive coordinated, holistic care from initial assessment through recovery.
Medical Retina Treatments
She administers intravitreal injections for wet macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, and other retinal vascular disorders.
Surgical Retina Procedures
She performs pars plana vitrectomy, retinal detachment repair, and epiretinal membrane peeling using high‑speed vitrectomy platforms.
Uveitis Management
She diagnoses and treats ocular inflammation with systemic immunosuppression, peri‑ocular steroid injections, and biologic therapies where indicated.
Cataract Surgery
She carries out both standard and complex phacoemulsification surgeries. Moreover, she selects premium intraocular lenses to optimise postoperative vision.
YAG Laser Capsulotomy
She restores clarity by treating posterior capsule opacification swiftly and safely with laser therapy.
Advanced Diagnostic Imaging
She utilises OCT, fluorescein angiography, and wide‑field retinal imaging to achieve precise diagnoses and monitor disease progression.
General Ophthalmology Services
She provides comprehensive eye examinations, glaucoma screening, diabetic eye checks, and urgent care for infections or injuries.
