Victoria Lane Consultant Paediatric Surgeon Newcastle provides expert care for children with complex surgical needs. She works at Great North Children’s Hospital in Newcastle, then became a Consultant in 2020 after training in paediatric surgery through Leeds and Sheffield Children’s Hospitals.
She focuses on colorectal surgery, especially conditions like cloaca, anorectal malformations, and Hirschsprung’s disease. In addition, she partners with Mr Jaffray to treat inflammatory bowel disease and polyposis syndromes. These include advanced procedures like laparoscopic Crohn’s surgery and ileoanal pouch reconstruction.
As a result, patients benefit from her experience and team-based approach.
Miss Lane treats several complex conditions in children. Her key interests include:
Anorectal malformations
Hirschsprung’s disease
Cloacal anomalies
Constipation and bowel management
Polyposis syndromes
Neonatal surgery
Notably, she uses both traditional and modern techniques to help her patients. Therefore, children receive the best possible care from diagnosis to recovery.
From 2014 to 2016, Miss Lane completed a top-tier colorectal research fellowship in the United States. She trained at Nationwide Children’s Hospital, one of the world’s leading centres for colorectal surgery.
During that time, she developed her skills in cloacal reconstruction and outcome-based care. She also studied long-term quality of life for children with bowel conditions. As a result, her surgical decisions are informed by real patient experiences.
She regularly performs surgery with a focus on improving each child’s future. Moreover, she ensures parents are involved in every step of the care plan.
Miss Lane is also committed to teaching. She holds a PGCert in Clinical Education and leads the Newcastle/Leeds Colorectal Fellowship. This program is backed by the Royal College of Surgeons.
In addition to her clinical work, she trains new paediatric surgeons. She also contributes to educational materials and surgical training techniques. Because of this, her influence extends beyond the operating room.
Miss Lane actively contributes to surgical research. Her published work includes:
Long-term outcomes in Hirschsprung’s disease
Patient feedback in bowel management programs
Surgical revision techniques
3D imaging in cloacal assessment
Gynecological health after anorectal surgery
Furthermore, she is the lead author of Case Studies in Pediatric Colorectal and Pelvic Surgery. Her work helps shape best practices across the UK and internationally.
Miss Lane is a proud member of the British Association of Paediatric Surgeons. Through her work, she continues to improve paediatric colorectal care across Newcastle and beyond. Because of her leadership and skill, she is trusted by patients, families, and colleagues alike.
