Watson Headache Clinic – Adelaide

About

At Watson Headache® Clinic in Adelaide, we help people living with headache, migraine, or related symptoms find real answers. Dr Dean Watson PhD, a musculoskeletal physiotherapist, founded our clinic and developed the Watson Headache® Approach. This method looks closely at the upper neck to understand how it affects the brainstem and may trigger headaches.

Many people don’t realise how often the neck plays a role in ongoing head pain. That’s why we focus on examining the upper cervical spine. We don’t guess or mask symptoms—we investigate and treat the cause. If your head pain has been called “just migraine” without a clear reason, we can help change that story.

We believe every headache assessment should include the neck. Our goal is to make this part of every proper diagnosis.

Services

We work with people who are living with pain—and also train professionals who treat it.

  • Headache and Migraine Testing
We use the Watson Headache® Approach to check if your upper neck is the source of your symptoms. This helps us confirm or rule out a neck-related cause.

  • Targeted Treatment
Once we understand the cause, we create a plan to help you recover. We focus on hands-on therapy that targets your specific problem, not just the symptoms.

  • Courses for Health Professionals
Through the Watson Headache® Institute, we offer training to help physiotherapists and clinicians learn our method. These courses are clear, practical, and research-based.

  • Practitioner Referrals
Need a Watson-trained expert in your area? We’ll help you find someone who uses the same reliable approach.

We support people dealing with many types of headaches and conditions, including:

  • Tension-type headache

  • Migraine (with or without aura)

  • Chronic migraine and medication overuse

  • Vestibular, menstrual, and abdominal migraines

  • Cluster headaches and TACs

  • Hemicrania continua and new daily persistent headache (NDPH)

  • Cervicogenic headache

  • Related problems like post-concussion syndrome, IBS, sleep issues, and vasovagal episodes

Additional Information

Headaches usually fall into three types:

  • Primary Headaches – These happen without a clear cause. Migraine and tension headaches fall into this group.

  • Secondary Headaches – These come from another issue, like an illness or injury.

  • Cervicogenic Headaches – These start in the upper neck. They may or may not come with neck pain.

If your headache switches sides between attacks—or even within one—this may point to your neck as the cause. We don’t ignore these clues. We use them.

Whether you’re someone living with headaches or a health professional treating them, we’re here for you. You can book an appointment, register for a course, or find a Watson Headache® practitioner near you.

At Watson Headache® Clinic, we’re not just treating pain. We’re helping you understand it—so you can move forward with confidence.
