Charl Hattingh Clinical Psychologist Tamboerskloof offers a therapeutic approach grounded in mindfulness, focusing attention in the here-and-now with kindness and compassion. With a background in psychodynamic psychotherapy, I understand how our past shapes our present interactions. We can break free from old patterns that no longer serve us and create healthier relationships.
As a clinical psychologist, I provide both brief and long-term psychotherapy for adults who are ready to overcome emotional, mental, and relationship challenges. Clients come to me for support during life transitions, crises, stress management, anxiety, panic attacks, depression, emotional regulation difficulties, and sexual and gender-related issues. However, therapy isn’t only about addressing problems. It is also about identifying what works well and building on that foundation to support your innate wisdom.
When we align ourselves with our personal strengths, growth happens more effortlessly. My therapy approach includes self-development work for individuals who seek a deeper, more fulfilling life experience. Whether it’s gaining clarity on life’s purpose, cultivating meaningful connections with others, or maturing emotionally, therapy can help unlock your true potential.
I am fully bilingual, offering therapy sessions in both Afrikaans and English. For those living abroad or in remote locations, I offer online therapy through platforms like WhatsApp and video calls. Therapy can be especially helpful when you are facing challenges like a persistent relationship issue, grief, difficult life decisions, or distressing mental health symptoms. Clients may also seek therapy simply to reflect on their experiences, leading to greater clarity and direction in their lives.
I offer a safe, non-judgmental environment where clients can express themselves freely. My work is deeply grounded in mindfulness, which allows for attentive, purposeful, and compassionate listening. This approach fosters a therapeutic relationship based on trust and discovery. As we bring unconscious material into awareness, we better understand ourselves and our patterns of behavior.
My therapeutic work integrates psychodynamic therapy, particularly self-psychology, to help clients gain insight into how past experiences and relationships affect present-day functioning. By embracing neglected parts of ourselves – what Carl Jung referred to as the shadow – we can turn these into valuable resources. With this newfound understanding, clients cultivate self-compassion and a healthier relationship with themselves.
Therapy isn’t about striving for perfection or avoiding difficult emotions. It’s about embracing the path toward wholeness. By gaining greater self-awareness and learning to manage habitual patterns of thought, we can live more fulfilled lives. While some problems may resolve through therapy, it’s the continuous growth and awareness that often lead to lasting change.
