Welcome to FirstPhysio, led by Una Robertson, a highly experienced chartered physiotherapist with over 30 years of expertise in treating a broad range of musculoskeletal conditions. Una’s career began in the NHS at Glasgow Royal Infirmary, where she gained invaluable experience in orthopaedics, care of the elderly, burns, outpatients, and rheumatology.
In 1992, Una took on a senior role in the rheumatology department of Falkirk Royal Infirmary, further honing her skills. By 1995, she returned to Glasgow’s community clinics before transitioning to private practice in 2005. With ongoing professional development, including regular courses and conferences, Una ensures her knowledge and treatment techniques remain current.
Her approach to physiotherapy is comprehensive, involving the assessment of the entire body, from joints to muscles, ligaments, tendons, and nerves. Una has undertaken joint mobilisation courses, acupuncture, nerve dynamics, and myofascial release training, alongside extensive reading on the origins and causes of pain. This deep understanding, combined with her relaxed and approachable manner, ensures that your treatment will be both effective and enjoyable.
At FirstPhysio, the focus is on treating the cause of your pain, not just the symptoms. The clinic strives to realign any compromised joints, alleviate pain, and facilitate your rehabilitation, helping you achieve long-term health and wellness.
FirstPhysio offers expert treatment for a variety of musculoskeletal issues, with a particular focus on conditions caused by trauma, injury, and overuse. The clinic treats:
Spinal and Pelvic Injuries: Effective therapy for a range of back and pelvic issues, including sciatica and other spinal conditions.
Pelvic Girdle and Groin Pain: Targeted care for pelvic and groin discomfort, often related to sports or postural issues.
Post/Ante-Natal Pain: Specialised care for pregnancy-related aches and pains, including back pain and pelvic discomfort.
Headaches and Dizziness: Treatment for tension headaches, migraines, and dizziness, addressing the underlying causes.
Work and Sports-Related Injuries: Rehabilitation for injuries sustained from office work or intense sports activity affecting various parts of the body.
Pain can arise from several sources, including trauma (such as falls or impacts), overstretching, and overuse injuries due to activities like excessive computer use or strenuous exercise. Joint misalignments can also cause pressure on ligaments, muscles, or nerves, leading to ongoing discomfort.
The treatments at FirstPhysio employ a variety of advanced techniques, all tailored to the individual’s needs for maximum benefit. These include:
Joint Mobilisation: Gentle techniques to restore joint movement and alleviate pain.
Muscle Energy and Recoil Techniques: Utilising the body’s natural movements to enhance recovery and flexibility.
Massage and Acupressure: Targeted therapies to release muscle tension and improve circulation.
Electrotherapy: A range of methods including ultrasound, interferential therapy, and transcutaneous nerve stimulation (TNS) to stimulate healing and reduce pain.
Acupuncture: A holistic treatment option for pain relief and improving mobility.
Where appropriate, Una will also design a home exercise programme tailored to your specific needs, helping you continue your rehabilitation outside of the clinic and promoting long-term recovery.
At FirstPhysio, the focus is always on providing personalised, effective care that addresses the root causes of your pain and supports your full recovery. Whether you’re recovering from an injury, managing chronic pain, or simply aiming to improve your overall well-being, FirstPhysio is here to help you achieve a pain-free and active lifestyle.
